Every religion has teachers. Jesus said something no mere teacher would ever say — and then He backed it up.
He said it Himself
A lot of people call Jesus a good teacher and leave it there. But read what He actually claimed:
“I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).
The people listening picked up stones. They knew exactly what He was saying.
“Very truly I tell you, before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58).
He took God’s own name from the burning bush and put it on Himself.
A merely good teacher doesn’t talk like that. Either He was telling the truth, or He wasn’t good at all. Jesus never left us a safe middle option.
He backed it up
He didn’t just make claims. He touched people nobody else would touch, calmed a storm with a sentence, fed thousands with a boy’s lunch — and He aimed most of it at people nobody else noticed.
“Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?” (Luke 5:23).
Then He healed the man — so everyone would know He could do both.
He chose the broken
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:17).
If you feel disqualified, you are exactly who He came for.
The religious crowd sneered that He was “a friend of tax collectors and sinners” (Matthew 11:19). They meant it as an insult. He wore it as a title. This whole ministry is named after it.
He died on purpose — and He didn’t stay dead
The cross was not an accident that happened to Jesus. It was the reason He came: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Your debt. His payment.
“He is not here; he has risen!” (Luke 24:6).
The resurrection is the receipt. The payment went through.
He appeared to more than five hundred people at once (1 Corinthians 15:6). His friends went from hiding behind locked doors to giving their lives telling the world about it. People do not die for a story they know they invented.
He’s alive right now — and He calls you friend
“I no longer call you servants… Instead, I have called you friends” (John 15:15).
Not a force. Not an idea. A living Friend with a name.
