Yes — and here’s how we know
It’s one of the most common questions people ask, especially when prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling. The Bible’s answer is honest, and it’s full of hope.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).
He hears you, every time.
“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry” (Psalm 34:15).
Same psalm as “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted.”
Being heard isn’t the same as getting exactly what we asked for. The night before the cross, Jesus asked the Father to take the suffering away — then prayed, “Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). The answer was no, and through that no came the cross and our salvation. Sometimes God says yes. Sometimes He says wait. Sometimes He gives something better than we knew to ask for.
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).
He is a good Father, not a vending machine — and never a stranger.
When heaven feels silent, you’re in good company. Hannah prayed year after year for a child (1 Samuel 1). David prayed, “How long, LORD?” (Psalm 13:1). And Jesus “told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1).
